Driver suffers whiplash injuries after showing off to friendsA newly-qualified driver has suffered whiplash injuries after causing a car accident while showing off to friends. The 18-year-old from Milton-under-Wychwood, Oxfordshire, had only been driving for five days when she crashed her Volkswagen Golf into two parked cars, causing severe personal injuries to herself and four passengers. According to passengers in the car, the driver had laughed and boasted to her friends to ‘watch this' before crashing the vehicle while driving at more than twice the legal speed limit. Prior to entering a 30mph speed limit in Leafield, the girl had been overtaking a friend's car. She lost control of the vehicle and clipped the pavement, which resulted in the crash. Her car's speedometer, which became stuck in the collision, revealed that she had been travelling at 70mph at the time of the car accident. The girl appeared at Oxford Crown Court where she was given a year's supervision and ordered to do 100 hours of unpaid work, after admitting to dangerous driving. She must also pay £400 in compensation, has been banned from driving for three years, and will be required to undertake an extended re-test. All the passengers sustained whiplash injuries, cuts and bruises, and the driver also broke her leg in the car crash.
