Car crash victim faces uncertain futureA young boy who has made a miraculous recovery after suffering severe personal injuries in a car accident in Wollescote in the West Midlands is facing an uncertain future unless an appeal meets its £45,000 target. The nine-year-old boy defied doctors after he was left fighting for his life this April and has remarkably regained the ability to walk and talk in just a few months. However, his place at the treatment centre which aided his recovery is now under threat. The car accident left the boy with horrific injuries, including skull fractures, bleeding on the brain, damage to the central nervous system, broken legs and a collapsed lung. He was airlifted to Birmingham Children's Hospital where he spent a total of 81 days in a coma and was kept in intensive care on life support for eight days in a critical condition. The boy's local authority, NHS Walsall, funded three months at a paediatric neuro-rehabilitation centre in Surrey, however it is now reviewing his place there. The father of the young patient has appealed that his son needs to remain at the centre for a further three months if he is to continue his progress. If he returns to the Midlands where there are no suitable specialist facilities he could be left disabled for the rest of his life. A series of fundraising events have been organised to help raise the money needed for the young boy to remain at the specialist unit to help him overcome the injuries sustained as a result of the car accident.
