Police officers in Sussex have employed the tactics of shock art to try and warn residents of the danger of car accidents over the Christmas period.
Police have placed the artwork, an upturned vehicle, outside the Guildbourne Centre. it is wrapped with a red ribbon and accompanied by a sign that reads "The Worst Christmas Gift".
The primary focus of the safety driver is to highlight the risks of drink-driving car accidents, with emergency services staff handing out road safety literature to members of the public.
Sergeant Ian Cooke, who is participating in the Christmas information drive, commented, "On Sussex roads last year, we had around 60 fatalities and this year we have already had around 70. We don't want any more."
He also said that he finds informing families of road deaths particularly traumatic around the festive period. "Christmas is the worst time, because they'll remember it at that time of year forever."
The tragedy of Christmas car accidents is something no win, no fee lawyers can testify too, with it common for there to be an influx of crash-related compensation claims over the period.
*A replacement vehicle can usually be supplied within 4-6 working hours, where there is an admission of liability from the other person’s insurance company. If this person is not known, their insurance details are not known, they are uninsured or there is a potential dispute over who caused the accident, a replacement vehicle cannot be provided.
