Police officers hurt in deliberate car crash 'ramming'
Two police officers suffered whiplashneck injury when the car they were chasing rammed their vehicle deliberately.
The car crash occurred at 2.30am on Saturday, in Plymouth. A black Focus, which was suspected of being stolen, refused to stop for police and sped off into the city centre at speeds between 40 and 60 miles per hour. When officers pursued, the car stopped, then reverse-rammed the police car when it followed suit.
The personal injury suffered by the police officers was serious enough that they could not continue pursuit, but they were not hospitalised.
Other officers later found the abandoned car, and police dogs traced two men who were believed to have been driving the vehicle involved in the deliberate car crash. One has been arrested on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking; the other has been released.
The two officers who suffered whiplashneck injury are recovering in a scheduled period of time off.
