Among the three men was a bus driver, who confessed to missing several bus stops on route to the accident so that he could ensure only he and his accomplices, seven of whom were onboard the bus, could claim whiplash compensation.
Police became aware of the fraud after an anonymous source tipped them off about the staged accident, which occurred in Brent Cross, North London.
All those involved were hoping to secure whiplash compensation payouts of up to £5,000. Three of the men, the driver of the car, his passenger and the driver of the bus, were handed six month sentences by Harrow Crown Court.
