Car accident trial brings accusations of deliberation
A jury heard earlier this week that a fatal car crash was alleged to have been a deliberate suicide attempt on the part of the driver who survived.
The collision, which occurred near Fontwell in Sussex, sent the car of the deceased driver, a grandfather from Bognor Regis, into a tree.
Earlier that day, the defendant had left a suicide note for his partner, but he claims he had intended to commit the act with alcohol and pills rather than the deliberate car crash he is accused of. He also claims he had decided not to go ahead with the plan after a soothing cup of tea in Arundel, and was on his way to a favourite beauty spot when the road traffic accident occurred.
He suffers from ill health, including emphysema, and from the knowledge that the car crash caused a death. Speaking of the victim's family, he said "I feel most terribly regretful and very, very sorry for them. They must miss him dreadfully."
*A replacement vehicle can usually be supplied within 4-6 working hours, where there is an admission of liability from the other person’s insurance company. If this person is not known, their insurance details are not known, they are uninsured or there is a potential dispute over who caused the accident, a replacement vehicle cannot be provided.
