Three police officers from Durham are suffering whiplash injury following a driver training manoeuvre that ended in a crash between the police car and a lorry.
The police car was travelling along the hard shoulder of the A1 with sirens on and lights flashing, when a lorry moved on to the hard shoulder and into their way, forcing the police training car on to the embankment, where it came to rest among some trees and shrubs, causing minor injuries, including whiplash injury, to the occupants.
Although they were taken to hospital, none were detained overnight. A police spokesman said that the lorry driver in the collision had been spoken to.
