Lexus models recall to avoid potential car accidentJapanese car maker Toyota is seeking to avoid potential car accident claims and other personal injury pay-outs by contacting owners of Lexus models which may have a brake problem. Although there have been no reported road traffic accidents or compensation claims due to brake failure in its vehicles, the company is taking the precaution of recalling models around the world so that they can be repaired. In the UK, the company is working with the licensing authorities to find more than 15,000 Lexus owners to explain the situation and advise them to contact their nearest dealer for a free two-hour check of the braking system and for any necessary work to be carried out. The models, which were built between February 2003 and December 2006, are the Lexus IS 250 and 220d, GS300 and RX300. A further 2,000 GS300 models in the UK are affected by concerns about the car's fuel pump where a fault could lead to the Lexus stopping suddenly. Again, owners will be contacted and directed to a garage for free replacement of the pump. Earlier this year, Toyota was obliged to recall millions of cars throughout the world and to meet compensation claims because of reports of car accidents when the vehicles unexpectedly accelerated.
