Thatcham named as first rear impact whiplash testing house
Thatcham, home of UK car testing for safety, has announced that it has been selected by Euro NCAP (New Car Assessment Programme) to be the first official testing house for their forthcoming rear impact (whiplash) ratings programme.
Whiplash neck injury often results from rear impacts, even those in low-velocity car accidents. Manufacturers spend much time looking into methods of making their vehicles safer and reducing the personal injury likely to be received in an accident, and this recognition of Thatcham's measuring processes is clear praise for UK testing.
Thatcham's Research Director is delighted by this development, saying, "At Thatcham our whiplash work is one of our key activities as we strive to reduce the very heavy burden on society and insurers caused by this common accidental injury. This recognition by Euro NCAP of Thatcham's research knowledge and commitment to seat testing is an important accolade and a real recognition of the investment made by the UK Insurers in furthering best-practice seat design."
Further, the car crash Research Manager said, "It's a real feather in the cap to be selected as Euro NCAP's first rear impact (whiplash) testing house. The team have worked hard to satisfy a stringent protocol and have already begun working on testing seats for the November launch. It's exciting times ahead as we look forward to continuing this substantial and significant project."
*A replacement vehicle can usually be supplied within 4-6 working hours, where there is an admission of liability from the other person’s insurance company. If this person is not known, their insurance details are not known, they are uninsured or there is a potential dispute over who caused the accident, a replacement vehicle cannot be provided.
