Soldier fights injuries sustained in motorcycle crashA platoon sergeant from Ilminster, Somerset, has made a remarkable recovery after sustaining life changing injuries in a motorcycle accident. The 36-year-old was left wheelchair dependant after being involved in a motorcycle accident earlier this year. He suffered severe personal injuries in the accident, including breaking his back in seven places and suffering a smashed eye socket. The soldier has been recovering at a specialist hospital for spinal injuries in Salisbury and achieved a major milestone this month when he attended a Civic Service of Remembrance in Ilminster. Despite concern from medical staff he managed to overcome his pain to attend the event with his wife and two children. Talking about his future, the soldier commented: "I'm not thinking about the doors which have closed, but looking at the doors which have stayed open." The next challenge for the platoon sergeant is to stay in the Army in some capacity, and remain positive and determined to overcome the devastating injuries he sustained in the motorcycle accident.
