Following a Cheshire road traffic accident, fire fighters have issued a warning that recent weather conditions have been such that a car crash is more likely.
The switch between hot, dry weather and heavy rain has left roads in a condition described as 'greasy', which is thought to have contributed to a road traffic accident that caused a car to overturn last week in Runcorn. Firefighters used cutting equipment to remove the vehicle's roof and rescue two occupants who had become trapped. A third person managed to escape on her own.
A spokesperson said, "In the UK, we experience a wide range of weather conditions. All too often we talk about the unpredictable nature of what the elements can throw at us.
"On the roads, a sudden change in the weather can make for dangerous driving conditions like slippery surfaces or reduced visibility.
"Due to the recent weather being so warm over the past couple of weeks and then having a huge amount of rain, Cheshire's roads are particularly slick at the moment."
Compensation claims resulting from road traffic accidents may increase if drivers do not heed the fire service's warning.
*A replacement vehicle can usually be supplied within 4-6 working hours, where there is an admission of liability from the other person’s insurance company. If this person is not known, their insurance details are not known, they are uninsured or there is a potential dispute over who caused the accident, a replacement vehicle cannot be provided.
