Road traffic accident compensation news 07/12/2010
Mother gifts payoutA mother who received road traffic accident compensation following the death of her daughter has given the entire settlement away to a soldier who suffered the loss of both his legs as a result of injuries sustained in an explosion while fighting in Afghanistan. Initially, the mother was told that she was not entitled to road traffic accident compensation because her daughter had no dependents. She explains, "I had not asked for compensation, but I told them [the insurance company] my daughter was priceless and they had made her worthless. They then decided I was entitled to something for… pain and suffering. Again, I said I did not want anything as whatever was offered would be the final insult. "However, the solicitor pursued this for several months. She said of the road traffic accident compensation settlement, "I would rather have had nothing. All I wanted then and all I want now, is [my daughter] back." The woman's daughter was killed as a result of being hit by a lorry on the A13 near Basildon, South Essex. It was later found that the lorry driver had been under the influence of Cannabis and driving at 60mph in thick fog. When she was struck by the lorry, the deceased woman had only just suffered a minor car crash with another car and was exchanging insurance details with the other driver.
