Man left tetraplegic after crash awarded £11.15 million
A Walsall man has been awarded record-breaking compensation for a car crash claim after being paralysed in a traffic accident.
The passenger was awarded £11.15 million, the highest personal injury settlement ever reported in the UK.
Represented by a catastrophic injury specialist, the man secured a lump sum of £4.25 million and will receive annual payments of £235,000.
The accident victim was severely injured while being driven by a friend in 2006. Their car was travelling in excess of the speed limit and collided with another car, sending the claimant's vehicle into a wall.
As a result of the car accident, the man broke his neck, damaged his spinal cord and is now a tetraplegic, with very little function in his arms and no function at all in his legs.
The car crash claim will help pay for the two carers that the 22-year-old victim now requires.
