Man freed with cutting equipment after three-car collision
A Purley blackspot saw a three-vehicle car crash this weekend, causing hold-ups at a busy part of the night for other traffic.
The driver of one car had to be cut from the wreckage, and was taken to hospital with suspected personal injury to his back. The fire service closed the road for an hour after the accident occurred at 10.10pm.
A fire fighter said, "The car with the injured person had to have the roof cut off and the side of the car removed." Local journalists have drawn attention to a similar story earlier this year, in which another car accident resulted in cutting gear being required to rescue a crash victim.
Residents have called the junction a 'death-trap' and demanded safety improvements to make the junction less prone to personal injury resulting from car crashes.
*A replacement vehicle can usually be supplied within 4-6 working hours, where there is an admission of liability from the other person’s insurance company. If this person is not known, their insurance details are not known, they are uninsured or there is a potential dispute over who caused the accident, a replacement vehicle cannot be provided.
