Yorkshire police have been speaking to the local press about Operation Anvil this weekend, which is a project to reduce car accidents that result from drunken or dangerous driving.
"Drink-driving continues to be an unacceptable menace on our roads that jeopardises the safety of law-abiding people," said the head of strategic roads policing.
He continued, "Again, it is important to warn motorists about the consequences of being caught driving whilst over the limit.
"At best you risk a fine, mandatory ban for one or more years or an increase in insurance premiums.
"At worst you risk losing your job or going to jail. And think about the consequences to yourself and your family of being involved in a serious collision.
"You could end up in a wheelchair, be killed or be responsible for the death of someone else.
"That is why we take a zero tolerance approach to these offences.
"My advice to all motorists to help avoid all the consequences is simple: don't drink and drive."
As part of the method of avoiding car crashes, the police have been giving hundreds of breath tests, and have issued 3,153 speeding tickets, 1,455 penalty tickets for seatbelt offences, and have seized 310 vehicles.
It is impossible to say how many car accidents and how much personal injury this approach may have avoided, but police remain positive.
*A replacement vehicle can usually be supplied within 4-6 working hours, where there is an admission of liability from the other person’s insurance company. If this person is not known, their insurance details are not known, they are uninsured or there is a potential dispute over who caused the accident, a replacement vehicle cannot be provided.
