Car crash compensation news 10/06/2010
Lancashire police payout £1m in compensationLancashire police has paid out a total of £1m in car crash compensation after admitting responsibility for more than 1,700 crashes involving its vehicles. Officers from the Lancashire police force were involved in more than 3,200 car accidents between 2005 and 2009. Police admitted responsibility for more than half of the accidents and paid out £937,805 in compensation to people injured in the car accidents. A relative of a man killed in an accident with a police car said that the force is working hard to improve standards. Several recent findings reveal that that the number of accidents across the force has fallen dramatically since 2005. In Preston alone, there were 112 accidents in 2005, compared to just 16 in 2009. Chief Inspector of the Lancashire Road Policing Unit said, "We have brought in a number of measures to reduce the number of police vehicle collisions." It is hoped that these measures will help keep the police car accident figures at a low and prevent the need for further police car accident compensation claims needing to be made.
