A 31-year-old nurse is seeking £200,000 in work accident compensation after slipping on a wet floor at a Hampshire hospital.
The senior staff nurse had been working at Southampton General Hospital in 2008 when she suffered multiple personal injuries as a result of the fall. .
The injuries to her right leg were so severe that she might be reliant on crutches for the rest of her life and will be unable to return to her nursing job or to live an independent lifestyle.
The nurse has launched an accident at work claim against her employers, the Southampton University Hospitals NHS Trust (SUHT), claiming that no warning signs were in place to indicate that the floor had been cleaned and was likely to be slippery.
The SUHT has admitted a breach of duty, but plans to take action against their cleaning contractors who they believe are responsible for not putting the warning signs up.
The nurse is expected to receive £150,000 to £200,000 in work accident compensation which will help towards any future income loss caused by her inability to carry on with her nursing career.
