A UK coroner has ruled that the death of a 20-year-old in a Millom car crash was an accident. The much-loved young man died at the scene, after a collision with a car in the opposite lane.
A taxi-driver who witnessed the road traffic accident told the inquest that "I saw the back of the car swing out then drive on our side of the road. I thought he'd managed to get away with it but it came back across to our lane."
Further details assembled a picture of the collision in which the 20-year-old's Mini crashed head-on into a van, which flipped up onto its nose before rolling on to its side. The Mini was sent on to the grass verge.
The inquest found no mechanical failure, beyond a tyre that was only just within the legal limits for tread depth, and that neither driver was exceeding the speed limit. Although evidence of cannabis use was found in the post-mortem examination, the coroner could not state with any certainty whether or not drug use had contributed to the car crash.
*A replacement vehicle can usually be supplied within 4-6 working hours, where there is an admission of liability from the other person’s insurance company. If this person is not known, their insurance details are not known, they are uninsured or there is a potential dispute over who caused the accident, a replacement vehicle cannot be provided.
