A retired car designer has been saved from the worst effects of a dramatic car accident thanks, in part, to safety features he designed.
The Scottish man's car crashed to the bottom of a 120 foot cliff on the north Sutherland coast, after rolling 80 feet down a steep slope. Although the Land Rover landed on soft sand, rescuers were still expecting serious personal injury to have been suffered by the driver; but they were amazed to find the man's seatbelt, airbags and other safety features had almost entirely protected him.
The local paper reports that the man's partner watched the commotion as emergency services rushed to the scene of the car accident, without knowing who it was that they were rushing to.
