Car crash claim news 10/06/2011
Driver sued for car accident that killed daughterThe father of a teenaged girl killed in a car accident in 2006 is suing the driver for damages. The man's daughter was 16-years-old when she died in a car crash on a mountain road in Powys. The girl was travelling as a passenger with three other girls and a male driver when the car swerved at Llangynidr Moors and threw all four girls from the car. The 18-year-old driver of the Vauxhall Corsa, the only survivor of the crash, was convicted of careless driving and is now being sued by the father for personal injury and loss damages. The 61-year-old father has launched the claim as a "secondary victim" of the car accident as he has suffered chronic psychiatric injuries following the loss of his daughter. The Cardiff Civil Justice Centre witnessed the man break down in tears as he described how the car accident had affected his and his wife's lives and went on to explain the psychiatric help he has needed since the death of his daughter. A consultant psychiatrist told the court, "[He] is suffering from a severe form of chronic post traumatic stress disorder. "There has been a huge psychological impact on this man." It has not yet been reported whether the man has been successful in his claim for personal injury damages following the car accident that killed his daughter.
