A 20-year-old girl who only narrowly escaped with her life after being involved in a horrific 2004 road traffic accident that killed her best friend is seeking up to £300,000 in personal injury compensation.
The young woman, a scientologist, lost her best friend when a drunken transit van driver drove on the wrong side of the road at more than twice the legal alcohol limit. In an earlier criminal hearing, the van driver, a 32-year-old lift engineer, was sentenced to five years in prison for causing death by dangerous driving.
It is understood that the 20-year-old claimant is seeking road traffic accident compensation for the injuries she suffered in the accident, which included a broken pelvis, collarbone, left arm and right thigh.
Insurers for the van driver have accepted liability for the road traffic accident claim. However, it is understood that there may be some dispute over the precise amount of compensation to be awarded.
*A replacement vehicle can usually be supplied within 4-6 working hours, where there is an admission of liability from the other person’s insurance company. If this person is not known, their insurance details are not known, they are uninsured or there is a potential dispute over who caused the accident, a replacement vehicle cannot be provided.
