Girl sues grandmother for car crashA young girl from Swansea is launching a £300,000 car accident compensation claim against her grandmother. The 20-year-old student from Swansea in South Wales suffered severe personal injuries when her grandmother lost control of the car they had been travelling in. The girl was travelling as a passenger in the back seat of the Fiat Pundo which her grandmother was driving when they were involved in a head-on collision with another vehicle. The young student suffered life-changing personal injuries in the car accident and was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford with a back injury and bruising to her abdomen and pelvis. Four days after being admitted to the hospital she developed septicaemia, followed by a heart attack just before she was due to have surgery on her abdomen. The girl underwent intensive surgery to remove almost one metre of her intestines. However, during the medical treatment for her injuries she suffered brain damage after being deprived of oxygen by hospital staff. Despite her horrendous medical problems, the claimant is back studying for a psychology and counselling degree at the Swansea Metropolitan University. The student has now launched a car accident compensation claim against her grandmother as well as a medical negligence claim against Oxford Radcliffe Hospital NHS Trust. Both parties have admitted liability although it has not yet been reported how much compensation will be awarded.
