Spinal injury sustained in car accident proves fatal
A Cheltenham footballer has lost his battle for life following a car crash on his way home two weeks ago.
The young man's local paper has reported on tributes "pouring in" for him following his death last week from personal injury suffered in the car crash, including one from the man who knew the accident victim since managing him in an under-10s team.
He said, "He would come and watch the football at mine and would joke that I was a useless manager, and I'd joke that he was a useless player. He had a wicked sense of humour.
"He was a great lad and this just puts everything into perspective."
The road traffic accident occurred as the young man was on his way home, at around 2.45am on November 16th. He lost control of the car and collided with a tree, suffering serious spinal injury. Despite being rushed to intensive care, his injuries proved to be too serious to recover from.
Two teams that the car crash victim had played for postponed their Saturday games as a mark of respect.
