A 68-year-old woman driver has been fined for causing a car crash that caused a fractured chest bone and whiplash to be suffered by the occupants of an oncoming vehicle.
Bridlington Magistrates' Court heard how the 68-year-old had attempted to overtake a horsebox while travelling on the Scarborough to Hornsea A165. However, this action resulted in the driver of an oncoming vehicle having to swerve onto a grass verge in order to avoid collision.
Its occupants, a husband and wife, had to be taken to Scarborough Hospital to be treated for their injuries, a fractured chest bone and a whiplash injury respectively.
The court was told how the other driver failed to stop after the accident, as she had not noticed any incident occurring. The judge ordered the defendant to pay a £60 fine and a £50 victim surcharge.
It is not known whether any no win, no fee claim, whiplash or otherwise, will be made by the injured couple.
