Crash-for-cash group arrested for false accident claim
A group of six friends has been prosecuted after launching a false car accident compensation claim in order to make easy money.
The five men and one woman had claimed to be involved in a road traffic accident at a roundabout in Blackburn in 2008. However, insurance officers detected that the story was fabricated after noticing inconsistencies in the friends' stories.
Members of the group were arrested two years later, pleading guilty to fraud by false representation, and their personal injury claims were rejected.
During a hearing at Preston Crown Court it was revealed that two of the friends had agreed to crash into one another in order to make the whiplash injury claim. The four other friends all claimed to be passengers at the time of the incident, claiming they had been injured in the accident.
*A replacement vehicle can usually be supplied within 4-6 working hours, where there is an admission of liability from the other person’s insurance company. If this person is not known, their insurance details are not known, they are uninsured or there is a potential dispute over who caused the accident, a replacement vehicle cannot be provided.
