Notorious no win no fee boss did not commit suicide
The no win no fee firm boss who fled to Spain after his company collapsed in 2003, died from injuries sustained in a car crash and did not commit suicide, a coroner has ruled.
The former boss of The Accident Group (TAG) Mark Langford was credited with helping to develop the "no win no fee" system in the UK, and TAG was once a leading personal injury compensation firm in the UK helping car accident victims make claims in offices located in Manchester, London and Birmingham.
But the firm collapsed in 2003 with debts of £100m and, at the time of his death, Mr Langford was being sought by HM Revenue and Customs for £4.1m in unpaid tax.
The inquest, held at Bolton Town Hall, found that there was no evidence that the car accident had been an attempted suicide.
Alan Walsh, West Manchester deputy coroner, recorded a narrative verdict that Mr Longford had received multiple injuries in the car crash on 9th April 2007 and had died as a result of those injuries.
Mr Walsh said at the hearing that although Mr Langford had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder after the collapse of the no win no fee firm, he had shown marked signs of improvement since December 2006.
