Pedestrian compensated for hit and run bike accident
A cyclist from Bournemouth has been forced to pay out £300 in road traffic accident compensation after knocking over an elderly pedestrian whilst riding on the pavement.
The accident took place in September 2011 when the 71-year-old victim had been on her way to the post office in Boscombe.
The cyclist knocked the woman over causing her to sustain a number of different types of personal injury, including a serious hip injury. She was forced to spend five weeks in hospital and will have to undergo a hip operation in the New Year.
The 37-year-old cyclist had been riding on the pavement at the time of the incident and failed to stop after knocking the elderly woman over. He later came forward and handed himself in after police appealed for witnesses.
The cyclist pleaded guilty to dangerous cycling at Bournemouth Magistrates' Court in December 2011 and was ordered to pay the woman £300 in road traffic accident compensation.
