Cyclist left hospitalised in road traffic accident
A cyclist who suffered personal injuries after being knocked off his bike by an uninsured driver in a road traffic accident has received compensation.
The collision took place when a car failed to give way and caused the cyclist to suffer a broken wrist and sprained ankle, resulting in an overnight stay in hospital.
The driver of the car told Market Harborough Magistrates' Court that he had been making a turn in the road and had failed to see the oncoming cyclist. He claims that as he turned the sun was in his eyes and he did not realise that the cyclist was there until it was too late.
The driver, who had been uninsured at the time of the accident, was convicted of driving without due care and attention and fined £335 and banned from driving for 9 months. He was also ordered to pay the cyclist £200 in damages.
It has not been reported whether the cyclist will pursue a further claim for road traffic accident compensation through the Motor Insurers Bureau who deal with claims against uninsured drivers.
