A student has been awarded road traffic accident compensation after being dragged under the wheels of a double-decker while cycling.
The 38-year-old cyclist was struck by the bus at a busy roundabout and dragged underneath. Fireman had to free her using airbags and specialist stabilising equipment before she could be rushed to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.
The accident caused her to suffer a broken pelvis, arm, and collarbone, as well as multiple rib fractures.
She was forced to endure skin grafts and surgery to stomach wounds and spent six months in hospital to recover from the horrific accident. However, while in hospital the Edinburgh University student also contracted MRSA and deep vein thrombosis.
The woman has suffered nightmares and anxiety attacks since the accident and has also been forced to cancel plans to study in the United States.
She launched a £500k claim for road traffic accident compensation against the bus firm at the Court of Session in Edinburgh, claiming that the driver of the bus had been negligent. The bus firm has since settled an undisclosed sum with the claimant.
