Council payout compensation to amputee victimA grandfather who sustained severe personal injuries after falling into a hole in a London park has been awarded £160,000 in accident compensation. The 67-year-old had been walking his dog in the park in May 2006 when he fell into the 10 inch hole and fractured his leg in three places. The man was rushed to hospital where doctors inserted a metal plate. However, the plate later snapped and caused an infection which left the former window cleaner in years of agony. The man had nine pins in his leg for nine months and then had it in plaster for a year, but it still failed to heal and three years on medics decided to amputate the leg. The man, who now wears an artificial limb, launched an accident compensation claim against Richmond Council, claiming that it had failed to fill the holes in the park despite repeated complaints. The council denied the claims made against it, however after a long battle it has finally agreed to pay out £160,000 in accident compensation.
