Addiscombe road accident leaves 14-year-old criticalA 14-year-old girl in London is reported as being in a critical condition after she was involved in a road accident. The teenager, who is thought to have been walking across Morland Road in Addiscombe on the outskirts of Croydon, was in collision with what police report was a green Renault Clio. The car driver is believed to be a white man in his 20s, and he failed to stop after the car crash. Nearby residents described hearing a sound like "metal on metal" as the car collided with the 14-year-old, and seeing the vehicle's tyres smoke as the driver spun the wheels to speed away. The vehicle was later found burnt out about a mile from the hit-and-run incident site. The registration number has now been released to the public in the hope that more people will offer information. The young pedestrian suffered severe head injury. A witness stated that when they saw the girl in the road and called an ambulance, "she was not moving at all". The victim was treated at the scene for an hour before being stable enough to be taken to hospital. The Catford Traffic Garage Collision Investigation Unit is carrying out enquiries into the road accident. If the driver is found liable for the 14-year-old's head injury then the young girl's family may start legal proceedings against the driver on the victim's behalf.
