Car crash claims are highly likely to follow a two-car accident which occurred near Stanley on Wednesday evening this week.
Four people were treated at hospital for personal injuries caused by the car crash, with an 82-year-old passenger reported to be in intensive care at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle. The 55-year-old woman who was driving the pensioner is believed to be suffering only relatively minor injuries.
The occupants of the other car, a 25-year-old woman driver and a 24-year-old male passenger both suffered fracture injuries.
Those involved had to be cut free from the vehicles by emergency service workers; both cars are said to be write-offs.
Early reports indicated that one of the vehicles was travelling on the wrong side of the dual carriageway at the time of the collision, although it is too early to say whether this would be substantiated by any no win, no fee claims for injuries sustained in the car crash.
