A boy who suffers language, concentration and motor skills problems after being involved in a road traffic accident as a baby has been awarded a car crash compensation package believed to be valued at over £3 million.
The Brightlingsea 12-year-old was involved in the car accident in September 1998 and suffered severe personal injuries including head trauma.
Owners of the coach which collided with the car in which the boy was a passenger admitted liability some years ago and a now a compensation package has been agreed with the insurers as full settlement of the claim.
The boy, who will need lifelong care and supervision, will receive an initial lump sum payment followed by annual payments which will be index-linked and tax-free.
The personal injury solicitor who brought the case against the coach company paid tribute to the "charming and loving family" who care for the boy. His mother gave up her career to care for her son after the accident and the family were supported by the father who works as a self-employed boat builder.
The exact figures involved in he car crash compensation settlement have not been revealed, but at an earlier court appearance the personal in jury lawyers representing the family said that he should be due at least £3.25 million.
