Tragic Scottish road accident results in personal injury payout
Car crash compensation of more than £530,000 has been paid to a 60-year-old man who lost his wife when the Renault Clio she was a passenger in was involved in a head-on collision with another vehicle on the A9 Perth-Inverness road.
During a hearing at the Edinburgh Court of Session, the driver of the other vehicle admitted full liability for the 2004 incident, clearing the way for his insurer to award the car crash compensation settlement.
Following the incident, the driver told police, "What can I say? I thought it was a slip-road and I was going that way. I was in a line of traffic and as they left I thought they were turning off and I was going straight on. I can't understand it.
"I was heading north on the A9, travelling to Aviemore. I don't really know what happened. The only thing I can think of is that I saw the turn-off for Pitlochry. I can't really explain it."
The accident solicitor representing the defendant said that her client "is extremely sorry for the tragic loss the family suffered because of the accident".
*A replacement vehicle can usually be supplied within 4-6 working hours, where there is an admission of liability from the other person’s insurance company. If this person is not known, their insurance details are not known, they are uninsured or there is a potential dispute over who caused the accident, a replacement vehicle cannot be provided.
