Car accident injury news 11/07/2011
Car accident survivor celebrates business successFive years on from a near fatal car accident, a Newport woman is celebrating the first anniversary of opening her own hairdressing business. The 23-year-old still suffers ill-effects from the injuries she sustained in the accident but despite this she has overcome her ordeal to become a successful businesswoman. A former holiday park worker, the woman had been on her way back from Devon with her partner when their car was involved in a collision with an Army Land Rover. The accident trapped the couple inside the car and caused her to suffer broken legs and a dislocated hip. Her partner also suffered severe injuries including a double fracture of the collarbone, a fractured sternum and a fractured finger. The couple were later told that their personal injuries could have been much worse. The woman had to spend two months in a wheelchair but battled to regain her strength and learnt to walk again using a Zimmer frame, crutches and special boots. Unfortunately, she then suffered another setback when she developed arthritis. Struggling to find work, she felt the only way to get on with life was to set up her own business. The woman who had been awarded car accident compensation decided to use the money to purchase the £11,000 lease on her hairdressing salon in Chepstow Road. With the help of the car accident compensation and the support of her Mum, who also runs a hairdressing business, she opened the salon in February 2010. The salon has been open for a year and is still going strong.
