A young woman who suffered life-changing injuries in a 2004 hit-and-run car accident has secured £1 million compensation following a five-year legal battle.
As the girl was hit by an uninsured vehicle, the Motor Insurers Bureau had to pay out the car accident settlement. Despite the fact that there were more than 30 witnesses to the incident none was able to identify the driver of the vehicle.
The young woman's mother said that she still hopes for the best, "I hope one day she will meet somebody nice, settle down and have children. At the moment, she has good days and bad days. This money can't change what happened but it can make things a bit easier for her. She's taking each day at a time."
The personal injury solicitor who represented the car accident claim said of his client, "I hope this settlement enables her to live as independently as possible in the future."
A £1 million lump sum is to be paid to the claimant together with ongoing annual payments of £40,000.
