Warnings have been issued to drivers about the dangers of horse-related car accidents after a horse was killed in a collision with a car in Leicestershire.
Two women had been riding their horses along a country lane when a car travelling in the same direction careered into the back of one of the horses, causing the rider to be catapulted into a grass verge.
Both emergency services and a vet quickly attended the scene but neither could do anything to prevent the horse from dieing of its car accident injuries.
One of the riders expressed her gratitude to those who helped in the car accident's aftermath.
"We would like to thank all the people who stopped to help after the collision, in particular the lady who helped with the fatally injured horse and the gentleman who held and calmed the other very anxious horse, they were so very kind. He didn't know anything about horses but was very good with him," she said.Adding, "We have ridden on these roads regularly over the years. We would like to warn drivers to be cautious because there are more people out at this time of year, particularly children as it is the school holidays."
It is not known if any of the parties involved is going to make a no win, no fee claim for injuries sustained in the incident.
