Car accident compensation may be sought after two cars collided at Scaling Dam on Teeside.
A woman driver of a VW beetle and her child were seriously injured in the car crash and were flown to Middleborough's James Cook University Hospital by air ambulance.
The driver of the other car, a Skoda, and his two passengers did not require hospital treatment and were tended to at the scene.
The A171 route to Teeside was blocked for three hours following the accident and traffic had to be diverted via Grinkle.
An witness to the incident said they heard a loud bang and then saw the VW fly through the air and turn over and over before coming to a rest upright, but badly damaged.
