A Sunday Sun newspaper consumer advice journalist has had to step in to help a car insurance customer claim compensation after his car was involved in a car accident
The motorist's car door had been damaged in a hit and run incident, and after claiming on his insurance, the car insurance company selected a garage to carry out the repair work.
However, the car has had to be returned a further three times and the door is still not restored to a satisfactory standard. The owner is now understandably reluctant to send the car to the same garage.
This time the journalist stepped forward to speak to the insurance company in order to avoid a court compensation claim.
A spokesperson for the motorist's insurance company said, "We have reached an agreement with [our customer] to have his car repaired by his preferred repairer at no cost to him.
"We have also reimbursed [him] for taxi fares and hire cars used throughout the claims process. [We] recognise [he] has been inconvenienced and would like to apologise.
"Once his car is repaired to his satisfaction, [we] will offer him appropriate compensation as a gesture of goodwill."
*A replacement vehicle can usually be supplied within 4-6 working hours, where there is an admission of liability from the other person’s insurance company. If this person is not known, their insurance details are not known, they are uninsured or there is a potential dispute over who caused the accident, a replacement vehicle cannot be provided.
