With the number of women convicted of driving offences on the rise, we can no doubt expect to see a rise in the number of car accident compensation claims made for car accidents caused by female drivers.
In the past, male drivers have always had a higher rate of traffic convictions than female drivers and were also more likely to be in a car accident. However, the gap between men and women with traffic convictions is now closing with 15% of female drivers now having a conviction against 11% a decade ago. The rate of male convictions has also increased by 3% to a total of 20%.
According to the Department of Transport statistics, the difference between the sexes can be attributed to the fact that men drive, on average, 20% further than women and are, therefore, more likely to be convicted of driving offences.
Drivers who have incurred traffic convictions are more likely to be associated with reckless driving and involved in a greater number of car accidents. Consequently, this also makes them more likely to have car accident compensation claims made against them.
