Despite the decision by Swindon council to scrap the use of its static speed cameras, the number of car accident compensation claims has not increased.
While many critics of the council's move believed the removal of the speed cameras would lead to a big rise in traffic collisions, the accident rate has actually remained the same since they were taken away last July.
Taxpayers Alliance spokeswoman Jennifer Dunn said, "People are sick of being fined under the guise of road safety."
The move could see similar practices being adopted across the country if the accident rates remain static.
Enforcement is still a main priority for the Safer Roads Partnership across Swindon and the organisation is intent on tackling other driving issues such as drink and drug-driving as well as speed.
More research will need to be taken over a longer period of time to see if removing static speed cameras really does not affect car crash rates and the number of car accident compensation claims.
