A teenager has died in a car accident just days after passing her driving test after her car crashed through railings and into the Leeds Liverpool canal.
The road traffic accident occurred on the A6069 near Skipton shortly after midnight on Sunday. The black Ford Focus overturned during the accident and was submerged in the waterway. A farmer was able to pull the car from the canal, and the occupants were treated at the scene. Although the teenager died, one passenger was taken to Airedale General Hospital, where his personal injury has placed him in an intensive care ward.
A friend of the teenager had previously managed to pull another passenger from the immersed car, who is suffering from serious shock.
