North Somerset blackspot gets 75,000 safety barrier
A car accident blackspot in North Somerset will be targeted in November as work commences to install a £75,000 safety barrier.
The airport roundabout at the junction of Flowerdown Bridge, outbound along Somerset Avenue has seen several road traffic accidents involving vehicles failing to stay on the road.
As a result approximately 800 metres of barrier will be installed along the carriageway in attempt to prevent further accidents.
North Somerset Council's executive member for highways, Councillor Elfan Ap Rees said, "This has been a particular accident black spot, with vehicles leaving the road at the roundabout and is therefore seen as an essential priority under our local transport programme."The work will inevitably cause some disruption, although we have programmed it so that the land closures are not in place during rush hour traffic."Nevertheless I would ask road users to be patient while we complete it.
Traffic at the site will be reduced to a single lane, between the hours of 9am and 4pm, during the work, but the car accident safety benefits for the future are hoped to justify the disturbance.
*A replacement vehicle can usually be supplied within 4-6 working hours, where there is an admission of liability from the other person’s insurance company. If this person is not known, their insurance details are not known, they are uninsured or there is a potential dispute over who caused the accident, a replacement vehicle cannot be provided.
