Car crashes into fire engine while fleeing police.
A car accident this weekend resulted in the arrest of an Essex driver after he collided with the rear of a fire engine.
The vehicle involved in the road traffic accident was being followed by the police after failing to stop for officers. After a brief pursuit the car crashed into the back of the fire engine while its crew was fighting a fire.
No emergency services personnel suffered personal injury in the crash, but the driver of the car was taken to hospital for treatment as well as being arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
The fire engine, from Ingatestone station, was describes as having suffered "extensive damage" in the car accident. A second engine was able to continue fighting the fire that had originally called the units out.
