Speed camera protest news 15/01/2010
Driver risked so much more than whiplash injuriesIf he had had a car accident, the man who chose to speed down a highway in Arizona with the top half of his body sticking out of his sunroof, may well have suffered a lot more than whiplash injuries. The 25-year-old driver is said to have been protesting against newly-installed speed cameras and although he attempted to cover his number plate, to prevent detection, the cameras took a good enough picture of his face to identify him. The car was first snapped travelling at 90mph in a 65mph zone, but officers could not identify the driver at the wheel. Later, the further shot gave police enough information to trace the car back to his family, who encouraged him to give himself up. Their have been several other protests against the speed cameras, not all were likely to end in whiplash injuries or car crashes, and a police spokesman told local media, "Everyone has First Amendment rights, if people don't like [photo enforcement], call your congressman; don't go and do stupid stuff like this.'
