A car accident claim is likely to be made against a driver who crashed into a school on his first driving lesson.
The 53-year-old lost control of his instructor's Nissan Micra going round a bend, embedding it into railings.
The instructor had tried to brake using his dual controls but the learner continued to accelerate on to the pavement. The first-time driver was one-and-a-half-times over the drink drive limit after drinking the night before. The car crash happened at 4:30pm.
Despite the boozy learner since passing his driving test, magistrates promptly banned him from driving for six months after he admitted drink-driving.
Richard Blackburn, prosecuting, told the court that police found the crashed car outside Cedar Mount High School in Mount Road, in Gorton, Manchester.
He has been fined £100 for drink-driving and £100 for breaching his bail conditions. He may still also face a compensation claim for the railings he damaged.
