During 2005 The Department for Transport and the Regions revealed some road accident statistics that offer some hope. Rather than depressing us by showing how many more suffered personal injuries or died compared to the previous year, these figures saw a decrease in doom and gloom from 2003. The main results for 2004 were as follows:
280,840 casualties on British roads were reported, 3% less than 2003
34,881 pedestrian casualties were reported, considerably fewer than 2003
3221 fatalities on British roads were reported, 3% less than 2003
671 pedestrian fatalities were reported, considerably fewer than 2003
585 motorcyclists were killed, 16% less than 2003
166 child fatalities were reported, 3% less than 2003
We are sure that you will agree these statistics are encouraging and as long as motorists keep alert, aware and take heed of the ongoing road safety initiatives, the government may have a chance of significantly reducing the number of road accidents and resulting personal injuries and fatalities by their aim date in 2010.
*A replacement vehicle can usually be supplied within 4-6 working hours, where there is an admission of liability from the other person’s insurance company. If this person is not known, their insurance details are not known, they are uninsured or there is a potential dispute over who caused the accident, a replacement vehicle cannot be provided.
