A woman was left unconscious and three other people were taken to hospital with whiplash injuries after a train accident in Lancashire.
Paramedics rushed to Blackpool North railway station
in the early hours of March 15th 2006 expecting to find
a scene of carnage following reports of a collision
between two trains. They arrived, however, to find only
several people suffering from minor personal
injuries.
It is thought that a train arriving from Manchester Airport smashed into an empty stationary carriage at 1.05am, but the impact was not enough to derail either engine.
Two ambulances and a rapid response paramedic vehicle attended the scene, along with countless police officers and several fire crews.
Inspector Gary Young from the British Transport Police told the media, "None of the injuries were life-threatening. One woman was reported to have been knocked unconscious and a man received an injury to an arm.
"Several passengers on the train were slightly injured and were taken to Victoria Hospital by ambulance.
"There were about 20 passengers on this train in total, the others receiving no reported injury."
Blackpool North's platform four was sealed off for several hours while experts investigated the railway accident, but the damaged trains were soon removed and the station was running normally in time for the morning rush hour.
*A replacement vehicle can usually be supplied within 4-6 working hours, where there is an admission of liability from the other person’s insurance company. If this person is not known, their insurance details are not known, they are uninsured or there is a potential dispute over who caused the accident, a replacement vehicle cannot be provided.
