England star punished for causing vehicle accident
Footballing hero Wayne Rooney has completed a road safety course after being involved in a vehicle accident.
The Manchester United and England starlet paid £150 to attend the course as an alternative to being
summoned to court after a car crash in summer 2005. His
£55,000 BMW X5 collided with a Nissan Primera, leaving the driver with a dented car and whiplash injuries.
Police gave the £30million striker the option of paying to go on the course or go before magistrates and
risk having his driving licence endorsed. The choice is given as part of a new initiative to keep minor motoring offences
out of clogged-up courts.
As part of the two-day course Rooney was required to complete theory and practical tests before taking
to the road with an instructor. It is hoped that the refresher course will prevent the footballer from causing any more
vehicle accidents in the future.
Other offenders at the Road Safety Training Centre in Leyland, Lancashire, were said to be amazed when
Rooney turned up to join their class. A worker nearby said, “Our jaws just dropped when Wayne Rooney turned up.”
*A replacement vehicle can usually be supplied within 4-6 working hours, where there is an admission of liability from the other person’s insurance company. If this person is not known, their insurance details are not known, they are uninsured or there is a potential dispute over who caused the accident, a replacement vehicle cannot be provided.
